Welcome to Miami: AAL 2239 – DCA to MIA

It’s been a while since my last flight. I’ve been really busy with some other stuff, but today I found some time to fly again. Enjoy American Airlines flight 2239 from Washington National to Miami International on B737-800.

Take-off was on 01 in DCA, facing the National Mall and downtown DC. To avoid the no-fly-zone we have to follow the Potomac on a sharp left turn immediately after take-off. From there on it’s down the coast and a little bit over the Atlantic before we will land on 12 in Miami.

We’re sitting at the AA-gates in DCA. Today it’s a little bit colder than during the heatwave the last couple of days. No sinking into the tarmac today.

Only in DC: A government Gulfstream is taxiing past us.

Waving goodbye.

It’s a little cloudy today. Looks like there’s a thunderstorm brewing.

So much action in this shot: AWE Airbus taxiing behind us, a CRJ just landed and the Capitol and Monument in the background.

A true city-airport.

There’s probably not many airports in the world where you can enjoy such a scenic view during take-off.

We’re banking to the left, following the Potomac and avoiding the no-fly-zone.

Flying upriver for some time, we circled back and are passing DCA below us now.

AA has one of the classiest and timeless liveries in my opinion. I just love the bare metal.

Not much was going on during cruise. We have reached the Florida shore and are descending.
Photobucket

It’s pretty much coast, city, swamp in Southern Florida.

And here we are above the Everglades, on our way to 12.

On final.

Downtown Miami ahead.

Short final.

We’re back at gate D46.

That’s it for today. I hope you enjoyed this trip report. I don’t know where to go from here. Maybe something in the 1-2 hour range from Miami, so stay tuned.

  1. Nice report! Loved the view of DC in takeoff. How about some Caribbean flying? SXM is only 2 hours away… 😉

    Cheers, Sveinn
