Shipping up for Boston: JBU 1008 – JFK to BOS

I’m really on a roll here. Two flights in a row, not bad. But today it was only from New York to Boston. A short 35-minute hop (well, taking into account the traffic at JFK it’s actually an additional 35 minutes just to get from the gate to the runway and airborne).
Weather in NYC was lousy, low vis (<3nm), rain and clouds. So no skyline today. Only in Boston, where it’s even closer to the airport compared to NY.
So get ready, and as the Dropkick Murphys once sang “I’m shipping up for Boston!”.

The routing is very easy. We’ll take off on 4L in JFK, climb to FL190 and land on runway 22L in Boston. Inbetween it’s pretty much a straight line along the coast.

When we arrived yesterday the weather was definitely better!

N290JB is ready for us. One of the many jetBlue EMB 190’s.

Pushback on time. Still we arrived with a delay, because of the congested JFK taxiways and a busy airspace in Boston.

Passing some exotic visitors.

There ALWAYS seems to be an EL AL 747 in JFK. This one’s taking off as we’re approaching the holding point for 4L.

An American 757 is next in line behind us.

Aligned and ready to rock.

Rotate!

Immediately after rotation some strong gusts shake us around.

At 19,000 feet the world is a better place and the sun is shining.

We can only enjoy this for a few minutes, as our descent into Boston has already started.

On Final for 22L. To the right behind the airport is downtown Boston.

Short Final.

And the skyline just behind the airport.

And back at the jetBlue gates. We’re the only company plane here right now. Not much going on at Boston around this time of the day.

I hope you liked today’s short report. The next flight will be to DCA Reagan National Airport in Washington, DC on US Airways A319. I have to wait for the right weather conditions this time, as I want to catch a River Visual approach…

  1. These E190 flights of yours are inspiring me Max. Time for me to get back in that bird at some point…..(opens up a lot of routes too as so many carriers are using them)

    • That’s exactly what motivated me to give them another shot. I’ve pretty much landed at all the big airports. So to keep it interesting I try to focus on some thinner routes now and also fly to the smaller regional airports once in while. The E-Jets are perfect for that. It takes some time getting used to their completely different Cockpit philosophy though, especially coming from a Boeing flight deck…
