From the Bay to the Mile-High City: UAL 756 – SFO to DEN

It’s time for a new flight report. This time doing a little cross-country on Boeing 767-300ER. We’re flying with United Airlines from San Francisco to Denver and even have some nice weather for a change! Including a very nice sunrise during departure.

ETD was 5:30 am, early morning.

Our initial route will lead us from runway 10R inland. We will soon overfly the city of Stockton, CA. Elected “America’s most miserable city” by the Forbes magazine in 2011, and having one of the highest crime rates at the West Coast. I know somebody who’s from there, but no time to say Hi to her today. The rest of the flight will take us over Nevada, Utah and into Colorado – overflying not much but mountainous desert-ish landscapes. Finally we will be cleared for an ILS approach into 08.

It all starts at the UAL Terminal in SFO. A lot of coffee was necessary to get ready for this early morning departure.

There’s still a lot of work to do on the flight deck before we can head out.

The engines are running and we are taxiing to the runway. There’s some sort of Rush Hour at this time in SFO as we had 5 planes departing in front of us.

But eventually it’s our turn. Another UAL 757 just took off and soon the Tower will clear us.

Rotate!

…and while it’s still dark on the one side, the sun slowly rises in the East.

Leaving SFO.

A very nice atmosphere.

And this time we can actually see something. Oakland airport is just on the other side of the bay.

We made it through the few clouds.

Wow, this looks like a sandstorm.

Good Morning America!

Even though nothing beats the old grey Battleship livery of UA, I get used to this new one as time progresses.

The sun is up and we’re on our way to Denver, Colorado. I just noticed that I was wearing my Avs’ Hockey Sweater during the flight…might drop by at the Pepsi Center later!

It’s getting mountainous.

We’re descending into Denver.

A left turn to get on LOC interception course.

And downtown Denver to our right.

RWY in sight. No need for ILS under this conditions.

Just for the record: Another entry in the category “World’s craziest airport layouts”.

On final.

Touchdown! Tim Tebow couldn’t have done it better…oh wait, different profession.

It’s great to have blue skies again. After all the last flights ended in rain and clouds.
Photobucket

The 767 in its full glory.

Thanks for taking the time to read todays report. I hope you enjoyed. The next flight will be a long one, from Denver to Heathrow on Speedbird 777 and afterwards a little island hopping in the Canary Islands.
