Nordic Expedition 5: NAX 540 – OSL to SVG
Welcome to another flight report. This time we fly from Oslo to Stavanger. It’s just a short hop of around 200 nm.
Our ride will be a Boeing 737-800 again, today as Norwegian Air Shuttle flight 540.
I tried something new this time and put together 2 videos. One from an external “Spotter” view, and one from the flight deck. They feature take-off and landing, so I hope you enjoy. It was my very first attempt at editing a video, so please go easy on me. ![]()
For recording I used FSRecorder, so there seem to be a few issues with the AP and some other systems and the sound (the engines are always running at the same N1, no GPWS callouts etc.). Also YouTube did some weird things with my video format after uploading and the quality isn’t the best. They also killed my sound on the second video, so I put in some instrumental song. I guess I have to learn a bit more about video editing and the best video formats for YouTube etc. before making the next clip…
Not really satisfied with my work, but it’s my first work, so here we go.
Here’s the Video from the spotter-view. I re-uploaded it in a different format.
And the video from the flight deck. I re-uploaded it in another format as well and fixed the sound issue.
Here’s the flight info for today.

And our routing. We take-off on 01L in Oslo, follow SID TOR2A and then reach Stavanger on an westbound track. We’ll be landing on 36 in Stavanger.

LN-DYC – it has Max Manus on the tail. He was a Norwegian resistance hero during WWII. I chose him because he has the same first name as me. ![]()

On the ND you can see the SID for today. After take-off it’s gonna be a 180° turn to the left.

We’re getting closer to the holding point at runway 01L.

Initiating the left turn after take-off. Of course there’s mountains and lakes below…

The red works well with the blue sky.

It’s a real short flight. FL is only 20,000 feet. Here we’re already getting closer to Stavanger.

Beautiful landscape again. It never gets boring out here.

Airport ahead. We’re hand-flying this approach. Very windy with 21 kts coming from ahead and gusting from the left.

Back at the terminal. This Il-76 freighter in the background just arrived.

Thanks for reading (and watching). Hope you enjoyed. Next flight will be back to Amsterdam.

Very nice! I absolutely agree, the DY livery is very nice. So, do you have any plans after landing in AMS? Some more short haul intra-Euro hopping?
cheers, Sveinn
Thanks! No plans yet. Been pretty busy with exams and my thesis lately, so probably something short in Europe, yea.
Love those short final shots Max, the NG has that high VREF, what a slick bird she is. (love that photo real paint too!)
Thanks Al. Yeah, it’s such a joy to fly this bird. VREF indeed is usually very high on the NG.
This time even more so because of 21 kts head wind and gusts (you can see that in the video too. Even after touching down it was a lot of work to keep her on the centerline)…you don’t wanna end up short of the runway when that wind suddenly stops
